A reliable mining vehicle safety system helps reduce vehicle-pedestrian collision risks, improve driver awareness, and support safer operations in demanding industrial environments. In Indonesia, WTSAFE completed the on-site installation, commissioning, and functional acceptance of five industrial vehicle safety systems at a mining site: four AI collision avoidance systems and one UWB forklift collision avoidance system.

The project covered three loaders and one forklift equipped with AI-based safety systems, plus a UWB system used for demonstration and distance-warning evaluation. The successful delivery demonstrates WTSAFE’s capabilities in overseas installation, system commissioning, and industrial vehicle safety integration.

Mining Vehicle Safety Challenges: Blind Spots, Mixed Traffic, and Harsh Conditions

Mining and industrial processing sites often involve heavy vehicles, pedestrians, and production equipment operating in the same areas. Loaders and forklifts may have large blind spots, while dust, high temperatures, obstacles, and changing traffic conditions can make it harder for drivers to identify nearby people.

Traditional safety management relies heavily on driver awareness, manual supervision, and operating procedures. These measures remain important, but they may not provide timely warnings when a pedestrian enters a blind spot or a driver becomes distracted.

For this Indonesian project, the customer needed a more integrated mining vehicle safety system that could improve visibility around vehicles, detect potential hazards, monitor driver behavior, and provide warnings to support safer operations.

WTSAFE developed a solution combining AI-based onboard safety monitoring with UWB-based proximity detection.

AI Collision Avoidance System for Loaders and Forklifts

WTSAFE installed four AI collision avoidance systems on three loaders and one forklift. The systems integrated multiple safety functions to improve vehicle awareness and help manage risks around the equipment.

Key functions included:

360-degree camera monitoring: Provides drivers with views around the vehicle to improve visibility.

AI blind-spot monitoring:Detects pedestrians in designated side-blind-spot areas.

Forward obstacle warnings: Alerts the driver to detected obstacles ahead.

Driver behavior monitoring:Identifies behaviors such as fatigue, smoking, and phone use.

Driver identity verification: Supports driver identification and more standardized vehicle use.

Low-speed control:Helps manage vehicle speed according to the configured system requirements.

These functions support a more proactive approach to industrial vehicle safety. Instead of relying entirely on a driver to notice every hazard, the system provides additional visual monitoring, AI-based detection, and alerts.

For mining and industrial operations, the exact camera layout, detection zones, and vehicle-control functions should be configured according to the equipment type, operating conditions, and integration requirements.

UWB Forklift Collision Avoidance System for Proximity Warnings

In addition to the four AI systems, WTSAFE supplied one UWB forklift collision avoidance system as a demonstration unit.

UWB technology uses wireless ranging to measure the distance between equipped targets. In industrial vehicle applications, it can provide proximity information between a forklift and tagged personnel or vehicles, helping alert users when they approach configured risk zones.

For this project, the UWB system demonstrated high-precision distance measurement and real-time proximity warnings. It provided the customer with an additional technical option for managing interactions between forklifts, people, and other vehicles.

AI vision and UWB serve different purposes. AI vision can identify pedestrians through image recognition, while UWB provides ranging information between equipped devices. The appropriate technology depends on site conditions, detection requirements, personnel equipment, and the intended safety workflow.

On-Site Installation, Commissioning, and Functional Acceptance

Delivering industrial vehicle safety equipment to an overseas site involves more than shipping products. Each system must be installed, configured, and tested under actual operating conditions.

For the Indonesia project, WTSAFE’s technical engineers worked on-site and independently completed the main implementation tasks, including:

  1. Equipment installation and mounting.

  2. Cable routing and electrical connections.

  3. System parameter configuration.

  4. Integration and commissioning.

  5. Functional verification under site conditions.

  6. Test documentation and handover.

The team conducted more than ten core functional tests to verify system operation. These included 360-degree camera display, AI detection of driver fatigue and unsafe behaviors, driver identity verification, side-blind-spot pedestrian detection, forward obstacle warnings, and low-speed management.

Engineers recorded test data and checked warning sensitivity, recognition performance, and system stability. The resulting test records supported the customer’s acceptance process and provided documentation for future maintenance and project reference.

Overcoming Challenges During Overseas Project Delivery

The project team faced several practical challenges, including language barriers, limited installation materials, high temperatures, dust, and difficult site access.

To keep the project moving, the engineers combined bilingual communication with hands-on demonstrations, making it easier to explain system functions and coordinate technical requirements. They also adapted installation methods to the available site conditions while maintaining the required installation and testing procedures.

Throughout the deployment, the team documented site information and technical findings. These records can help improve future installation procedures and support more standardized delivery for overseas projects.

This experience highlights an important part of selecting a mining vehicle safety system: product functionality matters, but so do installation capability, commissioning, operator communication, and after-sales support.

Successful Acceptance and a Complete Delivery Process

Following installation and testing, the systems operated stably and passed the customer’s functional acceptance process. The customer recognized the system’s intelligent warnings, driver behavior monitoring, and UWB-based proximity detection functions.

Before completing the project, WTSAFE organized the equipment, archived project documents, and provided technical handover materials. The delivery covered the full implementation process, from installation and commissioning to testing, acceptance, and after-sales support arrangements.

For overseas customers, this end-to-end process helps ensure that industrial vehicle safety equipment is not only delivered but also configured, tested, and handed over with the necessary technical documentation.

Choosing a Mining Vehicle Safety System for Different Applications

Mining sites, ports, industrial parks, and processing facilities may operate different types of mobile equipment under varying environmental conditions. A suitable safety solution should therefore be selected according to the risks and requirements of each application.

Before deployment, consider the following:

Vehicle types:Identify whether the fleet includes loaders, forklifts, excavators, or other industrial vehicles.

Blind spots:Assess front, rear, side, and turning-area visibility.

Pedestrian interaction: Identify where workers, contractors, and vehicles share operating areas.

Driver monitoring:Determine whether identity verification and unsafe-behavior detection are required.

Detection technology: Evaluate AI vision, UWB, radar, or a combination based on the site conditions.

Vehicle integration:Confirm whether warnings alone are sufficient or whether speed control and braking integration are needed.

Implementation support:Check installation, commissioning, functional testing, documentation, and after-sales service capabilities.

A site assessment helps determine which functions are necessary and how they should be configured. Not every vehicle requires an identical setup.

WTSAFE: Mining Vehicle Safety Solutions for Global Industrial Sites

WTSAFE provides industrial vehicle safety solutions for mining operations, manufacturing facilities, ports, and other demanding work environments. Its product range includes AI collision avoidance systems, UWB proximity detection systems, and other vehicle monitoring technologies for applications involving forklifts, loaders, and industrial equipment.

The successful Indonesia project demonstrates WTSAFE’s experience in overseas equipment installation, on-site commissioning, and functional acceptance. By combining AI-based vehicle monitoring with UWB proximity detection, WTSAFE helped the customer evaluate complementary approaches to improving vehicle and pedestrian safety.

For businesses looking for a mining vehicle safety system, the right solution should match the vehicle fleet, site conditions, and required safety functions. WTSAFE can help assess application requirements and configure an industrial vehicle safety solution accordingly.
